My next convention is Comicpalooza in late May. I had been planning on re-opening commissions in the meantime, but I changed my mind. I haven't had a chance to just do whatever for a while. This doesn't usually bother me, but work-work has been frustrating in that on-again, off-again way, and I don't really feel like committing to extra assignments for other people right now. I'm not sure when I'll be open again --  probably not until July at the earliest, but I might do a few small, 'Souls-only commissions here and there.

I have a few comic ideas in vague, nebulous stages, and I have a bunch of similarly vague ideas that I want to paint. I do want to have a new comic ready for Comicpalooza, but I'm not sure how hard I'm gonna try for that. WE SHALL SEE.

Man, where is this year going? While we're at it, where did last year go? I swear my brain is stuck in January 2010.

My very long-winded con report for Anime Matsuri is HERE. It is very tl;dr at 6400+ words, but I felt it necessary to report on a lot of issues and drama in addition to my normal recounting of events.

The short version is that I had a good time, but this was in spite of everything that the convention and hotel threw at me, and I do feel that I was very, very luck to have had a relatively okay experience overall. I feel like I'm in the minority, especially amongst artists. There were a lot of problems, most of which stemmed from poor planning and the absurd unprofessionalism on the part of the hotel staff. I'm disappointed that Anime Matsuri for many of the decisions made.

Things absolutely must be better for next year. Honestly, even this year, I would have much preferred to attend either FWA or Nashi-Con, both of which were this past weekend as well. AM was just far too convenient, being local. I don't know if I'll still be here next year, but having family in town will make AM relatively easy to attend as long as they stay in the city. I dunno. It's much harder now to plan for conventions a year in advance like I used to.

This upcoming weekend is AggieCon in College Station, then I get a two-month break until Comicpalooza in late May and A-kon a few weeks after that. Right now, I'm also down for Anime Overload in July, but I may be going to China with the family, in which case, I'd be canceling. WE SHALL SEE.

Anime Matsuri this coming weekend! Aaaaaaaaaaa. Kind of anxious about it because parking information is all over the place and they still haven't told us when AA set-up is and whether tables will be first come, first serve, or assigned, or what. Never been to Matsuri before and have tons of mixed reviews, so that isn't helping either.

I noticed that Delta H Con has their dates and stuff up for this year... it's now the first weekend of July, which means classes won't be in session at UH again. Really iffy about going because even though I had a good time overall last year, attendance was really pathetic. I don't think I have much reason to believe it'll be different this year, considering last year was their THIRD year and it was so terribly haphazard. It's also the weekend right before Anime Overload and two weeks after A-kon...

Which, I don't think I mentioned, but I managed to snag a table for A-kon despite all of them selling out in under a minute! x___x Yaaay. A-kon is the biggest con I'll have been to. Anxious about it? Yes.

But yeah, who all is going to Matsuri? As an artist? As an attendee?

Don't think I mentioned here that I had to skip Ushicon because the roads were iced. I was pretty annoyed/bummed about it. ...So to make up for missing out on my only February convention... I'm doing three conventions in March. 8| Plus the Pokemon Mall Tour. Because I'm a dork.

I had originally missed registering for Staple! because I was indecisive about it. But ~bigbigtruck was looking for someone to split her table with... *3* How could I not jump all over that? I am super grateful. And also kind of scared. Because Staple! will be my first (super freakin' indie) comic con. And because I need to not be an awkward spazz all weekend sharing a table with the artist who draws the Less Than Epic Adventures of TJ and Amal.

Will be driving up to Dallas with ~Leoncillo for Pokeymanz. The date(s) for Dallas is actually after the Black and White release, so I guess it is slightly less exciting that way, but whatever. This means I'll already have gotten started on the game and will possibly get to beat up little ten-year olds with my Smugleaf and company, right? :3 (What is it with me and crushing little kids lately.)

Anime Matsuri has been set for a while. Not sure what to expect for this, but not particularly looking forward to tabling in a hallway again. I've been pretty spoiled with cons that put Artist Alley in an actual room. :c

AggieCon got finalized a week or two ago. I'll be bumming with some SCAD kids, ~Dr-Kara and her sister (lol wut's your dA?!), who are also attending. It will be my first general sci-fi/fantasy con. Not sure what to expect here either. Must remember not to mention that I went to UT for a year. ;>

And then in April I've got nothin'. At this point, I'll probably not be wandering up to Seattle for SakuraCon (even as an attendee), so I guess I'll draw another comic in April or something. Or sleep, I guess. I dunno.

I'm still trying to get rid of as much excess stuff as I can, and I really, aside from the boring things like clothes and (way too many) messenger bags, the only things I own are 1) toys, 2) art supplies, and 3) art. The last post was mostly selling toys. I think I sold most of my excess art supplies before I moved out of Savannah, but I haven't really gone digging through that yet. I am running out of shelf space though, so I think it would be fantastic if I could get rid of some of my old art... including tons and tons of inked lineart for commissions that the commissioner didn't want mailed to them, the original lineart for various illustrations, the original inked pages for a bunch of comics, and other junk.

For starters, I have like... 90 of 100 of the 100 free sketches I did two summers ago. If no one wants to buy all of them, I am going to throw them away. Seriously. This stack of sketches is almost an inch thick and I don't want them. If you do, make an offer. Honestly, I would take anything over the cost of shipping.

I am up for selling any of the individual pages from The Z Train, the wolves are here, Tchaikovsky VS Kyerina, Untitled Weird Stuff, and City Dogs. Do note that for some comics, like the Z Train, a lot of corrections were made digitally after scanning, and I also do fill most of my blacks in digitally. Feel free to ask about what the original page looks like. I would also be up for selling the original pages of Where the Wild Things Are, but only if you buy all of the pages together. In case you didn't already know, this list has been on my main dA profile for ages and is always up-to-date.

Everything past May is kind of iffy. I'm not too keen on A-kon since Dallas is more out of the way than other Texas cities. I haven't looked into whether tables have already gone on sale or not either. San Japan is apparently already sold out. If last year is anything to judge by, Anime Overload, AFEST, Delta H Con, and Oni-Con will all be slow as balls getting their exhibitor information online, so I'm not going to even think about them until probably May. :

I am sad to say that I won't be making it to any of the cons in my old southeastern US circuit, so no MomoCon, no FWA, no Nashi-Con, and no Kami-Con. Unfortunately, all of these are too out of the way and costly for me to deal with right now... I do want to go back to them at some point in the future, but it isn't going to be right now. Instead, I had briefly considered doing SakuraCon as an out-of-state thing, but indecision got the best of me around when the tables went on sale, so I missed that. I am still kind of throwing around the idea of going anyway as an attendee, mostly as an excuse to get up and visit *Miyukitty and Seattle for the first time, but I really don't know.

What are the rest of you up to as far as conventions? As far as life?

Oh hi, I'm not dead! I've been busy okay. :c

So this year, I ended up skipping out on 24hr Comics Day. To make up for it, I promised Twitter that I would finish a 24-page comic by the end of October (otherwise I'd owe my followers a sketch by the end of November**). So it's not really a 24-hour comic since I had all month, but you get the same product, I guess. Except it would, theoretically, be of better quality since you know, I had all month. HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA. THREE WEEKS INTO OCTOBER, I kind of sort of have some thumbnails of an idea. Kind of. So yeah, despite giving myself the month, I ended up drawing the whole thing in a week basically. While working fulltime.

I'm not super pleased with the results to be honest, but I guess doing something lackluster is still better than doing nothing at all. One of these days, I'll be able to finish a comic without imposing ridiculously stupid deadlines on myself, but that day is not today.

I finished the comic in inks just short of midnight last night, but then I decided to add tones too, so I'm still doing those. So does that count as having finished? I dunno. I guess I'll draw you a sketch if you really, really want, but if it isn't done by November, too bad, because I have put off my starting NaNoWriMo to ensure this comic gets toned.

And speaking of NaNoWriMo, I have no idea what I'm writing. I am thinking of giving fantasy a shot as a genre, but beyond that, no idea. I should probably get on that, huh? Anyway yeah. I'll be posting one page of The Z Train a day until it's done. That will give you something to look at while I write furiously and stuff. Commissions will be open again in December.

** I occasionally promise to do things by a certain time on Twitter. If I don't follow through, I owe a sketch to whoever calls me out on it. Incentive to follow me and endure the other 95% of the annoying tweets that aren't promises? Yes.

My con reports for Anime Overload and Delta H Con are HERE and HERE respectively. I had the AO one written in the week after the con, but wasn't able to get to the DHC one until today because some crazy shenanigans hit a day and a half after the con and took over my schedule for two insane weeks.

During those two weeks, I closed commissions. I have a small queue I need to start working back through now that most of the insanity has passed, but I'm not sure when I'll be opening them again since my schedule's still a little up in the air right now. At the very latest though, I hope to be able to do some holiday deals and stuff once November and December roll around.

I feel like these last few months have been kind of blah as far as art goes. I haven't been drawing as much. There is a lot and not enough going on at the same time, and I am having a hard time focusing. I don't know what to expect for the rest of this year, so things will probably continue being a little slow and random for the time being. I might upload some design stuff to keep things from stagnating too much, but I dunno.

My shipment of Rainbows and Rainclouds arrived over the weekend and I packed everything up today. The books will be in the mail either tomorrow or Wednesday. :3 Let me know when you get them!

I finally, FINALLY received confirmation for my table at Delta H Con, so that's a done deal. If you're in Houston over August 13-15, come by the University of Houston for a good timeee~. C: ~Liabra should also be hanging out with me for that weekend, so even better.

Still waiting on a confirmation from Anime Overload, which is the weekend before in Austin. Hopefully they'll get back to me soon because I may just not go if they don't tell me one way or another by August. I mean, come on. : Same goes for AnimeFEST in Dallas in September, though I'm about 70% sure that I won't be going to that one.

In other news, I will have art displayed at the Howl Gallery in Fort Myers, Florida, for the Sugar Ninjas exhibition opening August 6th, so if you're in that area, go check it out! I won't be there unfortunately, so I hope other people take awesome pictures so I can see some of the other work that's being included in the show. :3

Preorders for Rainbows and Rainclouds close this Sunday, July 11th. Please get your orders in as soon as possible! I can't delay ordering them since I'll need the first shipment in at least before I head to Delta H Con and Anime Overload in August and maaaaaybe Anime FEST in September.

Technically, I haven't received confirmations for either DHC or AO though I mailed in registration forms and payment weeks ago. I'm pretty frustrated with the incredible lack of communication with these cons and the lack of information on their websites. I've never dealt with such sloppy management. Even the tiny college cons I've gone to -- like Nashi-Con and Kami-Con -- were much better handled than these, though DHC is technically a small college con I suppose. AFEST is similarly lacking and it's the one I'm the least confident about at the moment. I've decided not to pursue Oni-Con at all because after three months of hounding them via email and Twitter, I got the response that their AA is very lacking.

Still, right now, I'm going to assume that I'll be at Delta H Con and Anime Overload. They're in Houston and Austin respectively, so if you're in the area, plan to check them out! :3 Hopefully they'll be fun, even with these snafus. I'll definitely post again whenever I get confirmation either way.

By the way, thanks for all the feedback on the price VS quality issue. In the end I went ahead and opted for quality because the pages and colors on the cheaper version were seriously driving me nuts. So I hope you guys won't mind spending a few extra bucks for much more accurate colors, much sturdier pages, and just a nicer job in general.

Also, sorry for the lack of activity around here. I swear I've been working on things -- I'm just out a scanner right now. My new one should be arriving any second now though! Then I will have stuff to share! x3

Heeeeey, so I graduated SCAD summa cum laude with a 3.96 GPA. Now let's see where that gets me.

I've reopoened my COMMISSIONS so I can hopefully have some income while I work on a slew projects, both for myself and for others. One of the first things on the list is a number of portfolio websites from former classmates and friends. I'll be setting up a specific page with info on commissioning websites from me eventually, but I'd like to get through my current queue so I have some more examples handy. In the meantime though, if you'd like a personal website -- especially a portfolio website -- feel free to contact me about it.

Also at the top of the list are the minor corrections I still need to make to Rainbows and Rainclouds. Was also thinking of doing a few more bonus illustrations since I have more time now... As soon as I'm done with that, I'll do preorders. I'd really like to be able to get books into people's hands by early July, so we'll see how that goes.

I'm going to be working on a comic project to pitch to Scholastic. It's an adaptation of a Scholastic property rather than an original project, so I probably won't post anything related to it for the whole. I'm only going to be doing character designs and about five pages of sequential work for the pitch. If it works out, whether I post anything will depend on the editor. If it doesn't work out, I'll share everything then. (If you know me at all, it shouldn't be hard to guess which Scholastic property I'm working on. But don't guess because I won't answer!)

I'm also going to ink the cover for and properly tone my Black Cat comic from March and pitch that somewhere else. I would like to draw the rest of the strips I have scripted for Grains of Salt in Tokyo, but this is a pretty low priority right now.

Outside of comics work... I HAVE SO MUCH PAINTING I WANT TO DO. I want to do more paintings in the vein of what I was doing last summer, so you can probably expect some weird animal skeletons in your inbox sometime soon. I also want to do a series of ACEOs themed around something. Or maybe multiple series of ACEOs because I have a lot of themes I wouldn't mind doing, lol.

I'm still working out whether I'll be able to attend AnimeOverload, Delta H Con, AnimeFEST, Oni-con, Austin Comic Con, or Ikkicon. I'll post about it as soon as I figure it out, but right now, Delta H is looking pretty likely. AO, ACC, AFEST, and Ikki depend on if I can get rides and general costs worked out, though if I attend ACC at all, I probably won't be tabling. Oni depends on if they can get their shit together because it's June already and they have absolutely zero information up on their website and I've been harassing them on Twitter for the last three months.

Annnd... I think that's it for now. I haven't been uploading much aside from school work these last couple of months, but that's obviously gonna change, 'cause I'm out of school forever~.

In other news, I'm officially 100% done with all of my schoolwork. Classes aren't out until Thursday technically, but I don't have to go in if I don't want to, lol. So yeah.

This was just a test copy, so as soon as I get a few minor things fixed up, I'll order a small batch to sell. Hey~, so I finished all 40 pages of inks for my Senior Project, Rainbows and Rainclouds, and have started coloring. The first six COMPLETELY FINISHED pages are HERE. They'll be the only finished pages I'll be posting, though I'll probably post the cover when I finish that.
